Copyright Defenses -- Reductio ad absurdum

"How the Church of Scientology defends copyrights
even when they don't need defending"

On 6 March 2004, WISE issues a "Non Member Issue" on Marina Martins. This issue is printed on goldenrod (gold-yellow) paper and is the highest gradient of justice action that WISE imposes officially. It basically says that the person is not, or will not, use L. Ron Hubbard Administrative Technology and is no longer eligible for membership with WISE. The practical application of this (though not put in writing it is definitely put into practice) is that a person with a "WISE Non Member Issue" on them may not get any training or auditing in any Church of Scientology organization until they first correct the matter with WISE.

These issues are standardly and robotically marked with a copyright notice at the bottom. I sure don't know why, because there is no commercial value to them and no artistic expression in them. They are business memoranda. Not copyrightable material by any legal standards.

In Marina Martin's Non Member Issue, it was remarked (I'm paraphrasing) that she had gone into hiding and refused to contact the Sea Org members at WISE. Specifically, it was written: "Numerous attempts to reach Marina and assist her in complying to the agreement she made have failed and Marina has not been in communication with either WISE, the Charter Committee or the other party she made an agreement with." --Arwin D'Rion, Sea Org Member and staff at WISE WUS

I'm "the other party". Marina Martins bilked me out of about $30,000 and was supposed to make payments to me. WISE's job was to help me with getting compliance from Marina Martins. Marina had repeatedly gone into hiding and I found someone who knew her whereabouts, Michael Maurer. I asked him to contact WISE because they were looking for her. When he refused, I wrote a Knowledge Report on him -- the gist being an idea like "hiding a fugitive", and specifically "No Report". On the back of the Knowledge Report I photocopied Marina's one-page WISE Non Member Issue and circled the paragraph stating that WISE was seeking her. I considered it key to showing him that WISE really was seeking Marina and that it wasn't a light matter.

Instead of handling the issue or obtaining from Michael Maurer the whereabouts of the deadbeat fugitive Marina Martins, Arwin D'Rion wrote a Knowledge Report on me for violating her copyright by photocopying the WISE Non Member Issue.

What petty interests! How ludicrous! The issue is addressed to "Those Concerned" and the copies were only distributed to in-house ethics offices. It's not like I plastered it all over town or mailed it to every one of Marina's friends.

Ok, you convinced me. Here's a copy of both KRs and the WISE Non Member Issue. Click here to see what all the fuss was about.

If it shows nothing at all to you, the reader, it should at least show you that the Scientologists in charge of "ethics and justice" of third parties are not interested in handling justice, but merely interested in covering their own asses.

Arwin D'Rion, it's time you woke up to the REAL world of justice, but you'll have to get out of the Church of Scientology to see it.
